Quiet, reserved and logical are trademark qualities that friends and family might use to describe Marcia Ann (Sanders) Patterson. Marcia was an intuitive person. She was the type of person who could comfortably get lost in her thoughts, someone who had tremendous problem solving abilities. Always conscientious and focused on details, Marcia was a person who loved to imagine the possibilities of life.
Marcia was born on September 27, 1950 in Monroe County at St Mary's Hospital in Sparta, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Robert Frank Sanders and Faye (Womick) Sanders. Marcia did not have to surround herself with people to be content. She was the type of person who enjoyed being alone rather than be part of a large crowd. She could be content for hours in some activity or be lost in her own imagination.
Marcia was adaptable and had good listening skills which she would use to her advantage when it came to family life. She grew up with eight siblings. She had three brothers: John, Robert, and Loren, and five sisters: Nancy, Brenda, Debra, Carole, and Julie. She rarely shied away from family discussions. She would debate with her siblings but if it turned into an argument, Marcia would often turn it into an agreement. In general, the family got along well and shared many memorable experiences.
Marcia met her husband to be, Roy Patterson, while attending Job Corps in Marquette, Michigan. Roy was serving in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at KI Sawyer Air Force Base. They tied the knot on October 26, 1968 in Marquette. They recently celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on October 26, 2010.
Marcia traveled to all Air Force assignments with Roy during his Air Force career, with the exception of Vietnam (August 1970- August 1971). Those assignments included K. I. Sawyer AFB- Michigan, Patrick AFB- Florida, Andrews AFB- Maryland, Kirtland AFB- New Mexico, Patch Barracks- Germany, and lastly Nellis AFB- Nevada.
Marcia was a hard worker and a good provider who loved her family deeply. Marcia and Roy were blessed with two children: one son, Robert and one daughter, April. They were also blessed with five grandchildren: Marie, Michael, Catrina, Jack, and Victoria. Marcia's sense of fun was often unleashed in her puns and witty, intelligent quips. It delighted her when the children and grandchildren would banter back and forth with her in this brainy exchange of mind contests. The children always knew how much Marcia loved them.
Upon Roy's retirement in 1989 from the United States Air Force, Marcia and Roy remained in Las Vegas, Nevada, close to their children and grandchildren.
Marcia Ann Patterson passed away on October 31, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She is survived by her beloved husband, Roy; children: Robert Patterson and April Carnes; grandchildren: Marie Patterson, Michael Patterson, Catrina Dias, Jack Patterson, and Victoria Patterson; her mother, Faye Frye; her brothers: John Sanders, Robert Sanders, and Loren Sanders; her sisters: Nancy Cox, Brenda Kiepper, Debra Ulness, Carole Martin; and Julie Valenzuela. Services were held at Palm Mortuary, Eastern Chapel. Marcia was laid to rest in Palm Valley View Cemetery, Garden of Sunrise, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Those who knew and loved Marcia will miss her quiet gentleness, her curiosity and her ability to often turn work situations into fun experiences. She leaves all those who knew her with many wonderful memories.
