Marjorie Ann Speer (nee Friedlund) passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015, in Henderson, after unexpected surgery and a courageous fight for her life that allowed time for family to travel to be at her side. She was born July 9, 1946, in DeKalb, Illinois, the first of three children to Carl Edward Friedlund and Maude (nee Park) Friedlund Lofftus. She married her high school sweetheart, William Renwick Speer in 1967 and the couple cultivated an amazing, full life together over the past 48 years. She was deeply devoted to her husband and their two children. Marge attended Northern Illinois University and worked alongside her husband, Bill, for 20 years as an executive assistant at Bowling Green State University. After moving to Nevada, they continued working together at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas until her retirement in 2010. Marge was able to enjoy the fruits of her labors by traveling the world with Bill. While travel was one of her passions, she was also a voracious reader. Marge enjoyed time spent with family, co-workers, friends, NacciCat and many others she unassumingly impacted. All will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Oscar Friedlund. She is survived by her husband, Bill; her brother, John Friedlund of Sanibel, Florida; her two children, Jeffrey William Speer of Henderson, and Ryan Michael Speer of Perrysburg, Ohio; and two grandchildren, whom she cherished immensely, Cailin Riley Speer and McKenna Frances Speer, both of Perrysburg, Ohio. A celebration of life gathering will be held in Las Vegas in mid-November, followed by similar remembrances in Bowling Green and DeKalb. Details regarding the specific dates and times will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.
