Mary Margaret Bowen, 91, passed away January 18, 2022 with her daughter and son at her side. Mary was born October 18, 1930 in Denver, Colorado to Florence and Thomas Fay. After graduation from Arvada High School Mary met Vernon (Bernie) Bowen and entered a happy 63 year marriage on August 20, 1950. Mary and Bernie moved to the Henderson area in 1951.
While raising their son Gerald (Jerry) and daughter Theresa (Teri) Mary embarked on a working career with the Clark County School District, becoming Manager of the central kitchen that provided meals to all local high schools at that time. While Bernie had a long career as a Fire Fighter their careers allowed them to do what they both loved, TRAVEL! They loved camping, boating, water skis, and driving in any kind of vehicle, including RV’s, boats, 4 wheelers, motorbikes and snowmobiles. They loved their “Toys”.
In retirement Mary and Bernie moved to Duck Creek, Utah where they enjoyed the mountain life. Mary so enjoyed entertaining all the family, especially the grandchildren. No one was a stranger to Mary and she and Bernie hosted fun times with all their friends and neighbors almost daily on the mountain.
After many Utah winters Mary and Bernie moved back to Henderson in 2011. They traveled often until Bernie’s death in 2014. Mary continued life as he urged her to do, never slowing down while visiting overseas in China, Ireland, Mexico and Europe. She also traveled throughout the US, including many Western states and all the Pacific Northwest. She enjoyed all her friends at Sun City Anthem during her final years!
Mary was preceded in death by her mother and father, brother Thomas and husband. She is survived by daughter Teri (Ron) Hartsell and son Jerry (Cindy) Bowen. Grandchildren include Brian (Angelique) Hartsell, Kari (Rich) McGonnigal, Evan (Vanessa) Hartsell, Danielle (Brent) Bowen and Mindy (Derek) Santistevan and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life is planned for January 29 at Church of Lake Mead, 530 E Lake Mead, Henderson, followed later by a family and friends service at Boulder City Veteran’s Cemetery where she will join Bernie for eternity.
It will be hard to forget someone who gave us so much to remember!
