Michael Scibelli, our Dad, passed away December 28, 2023 at 91 years old and exactly 30 years to the day our mom, Gloria, passed away. Dad said many times “I’ve had a good, long life…better than so many others and have no regrets. If God were to take me right now, I’d be okay with it.”
Michael had many redeeming qualities, most being his devotion to family, music and golf, in that order. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to Michael Scibelli, Sr. and Elizabeth "Betty" Santillo. A rough childhood had given him the strength to endure helping his mother support his younger siblings, therefore, his role as a man began at a young age. He began his career as an electrician with IBEW Local 3 and quickly became foreman for New York City's most iconic skyscrapers, universities, hotels and airports. Most notably the World Trade Center, Columbia University, the Waldorf Astoria and additional terminals at JFK Airport, to name a few. Michael and Gloria retired in Las Vegas in 1991 and loved the arrid, dry climate. Las Vegas became a haven for him to hone his golf skills which came to fruition with a Hole-in-One in 2000 and an impressive handicap. Michaels love for music, and the piano, has been a lifelong passion and he has written over 30 songs, becoming a member of ASCAP. He played the piano as if he was classically trained, however, he was not.
After Gloria's passing, Michael knew he had to move on to survive. He was introduced to Marlene "Mickie" DeLee and he began to look toward the future. They married 2 years later and welcomed 2 grandchildren, William and Grace. Marlene passed away in 2014.
Life without Dad will be tough, he has been such a strong influence, our go-to guy, our rock and our most valuable teacher of life and goodness. We never felt we could do enough for him, and we know he felt the same toward us. He truly was the Genuine Article. We try each day to take comfort in knowing he's no longer in pain and has been reunited with Mom after so many years apart. Michael leaves behind Chris Scibelli (Patricia), Lisa Scibelli-Ciccarone (Peter), sisters JoAnn Yevoli, Patricia Signoriello, brother Richard Scibelli, stepson Garrison DeLee, many nieces and nephews and his grandchildren Erika and Nina Scibelli and William and Grace DeLee.
Services will be held Saturday, April 13th beginning at 12PM at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89123. The family requests donations in his name be made to Save the Music Foundation or American Society for the Blind, both charities he was passionate about.
