Monica Lynne Scott, age 64, of Las Vegas, Nevada went to be with the Lord on November 7, 2020 at 2:50 pm at Desert Springs Hospital. Monica was born February 16th, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois to Lawrence and Patricia Scott.
Monica was a beautiful, stubborn, caring, accomplished, and amazing woman. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and wife to her husband Mickey Atkinson.
She left behind a million Christmas tins for her family to cherish, as she did. Her contagious laugh and smile would light up a room. Nothing made her smile more than Christmas, her grandchildren, and Mickey’s dad jokes (which she pretended were not funny).
She never missed calling to sing the birthday song (and would force Mickey to sing along). She always was the one to start and finish a snowball fight. She loved rock music and playing the drums. She had a very particular Keno strategy (which worked). Her Starbucks order was unique and complex, but always perfectly prepared at her favorite Starbucks location. She enjoyed old movies, sports, and a good deal.
She was a boss – organized, efficient, and vocal. She would always say, “you need to write that down” and leave little notes in the car from food orders and grocery lists. She knew what she wanted and went for it. She not only did that for herself, but for others.
You could count on her to be there. She cared for her mother and father before their passing. She was there for the birth of her four oldest grandchildren as well as their first day of kindergarten. She would go to the ends of the earth for those she loved.
She was a force of nature. As she would say, “we love you more than donuts and chocolate milk.”
She is preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Patricia Scott, her brothers Michael and John, and her sister Mary.
She is survived by her husband Mickey Atkinson, daughter Christie, son James, sixteen grandchildren, brothers Lawrence, Chris, Stevie, Tim, Kevin and Daniel, and her sisters Sheila and Laura.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 PM on November 16, 2020 at Palm Eastern Mortuary, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, Nevada.
A celebration of her life will take place after the service at the Flamingo Banquet Hall at 3495 East Flamingo Rd, Las Vegas, Nevada.
