

Rachel Diamond Maggal, 87, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, at the Home Sweet Home Group home in Las Vegas, Nevada. Rachel was born on February 13, 1929 in Claremont, New Hampshire to Harry and Goldie Diamond. She graduated from Stevens High School in Claremont, NH in 1946. After graduating high school, she worked as a private secretary at the Ford Motor Company in her home town, then moved to New York City, where she worked as a private secretary at Gimbel Bros. In 1951, Rachel married Rabbi Moshe M. Maggal, who was the Rabbi at Temple Meyer-David in Claremont, New Hampshire. They moved to Billings, Montana in 1952 where her husband was the Rabbi at Temple Beth Aaron. They settled in Los Angeles, California in 1954 and had three daughters. In Los Angeles, Rachel and her husband were advisors on the movie “The Ten Commandments.” Her hobbies included extensive traveling, politics, and appearing on and winning T.V. game shows and game show pilots. She also entered and won numerous cooking contests. In addition to participating in congregational functions, Mrs. Maggal became active in civic and communal affairs. As a pianist and singer, she was a volunteer music teacher and piano accompanist in the public school system. She was the Public Relations Director and Secretary of the National Jewish Information Service, and edited the Voice of Judaism newspaper. Rachel was a member of the Beverly Hills Zionist District. Mrs. Maggal and her husband retired to Las Vegas, Nevada, where she was a professional pianist and singer. Rachel is survived by her children, Davida (Arnold) DeMonte of Matawan, NJ, Michelle Maggal of Somers, NY, and Elana Maggal, of San Rafael, CA, and grandchildren Adena (Dan) DeMonte-Shilstone, Arielle DeMonte, Melanie Weinstein, and Marissa and Zachary Weinfeld.
