Reva Yvonne Overmiller was born in her family home in Smith Center, Kansas on May 18, 1929. She was the second of nine children to her parents Melvin and Gladys Overmiller.
On December 24,1946 in the small café known as Hazel’s where she had worked as a waitress since the age of fourteen earning forty cents per hour, she met the love of her life, Frank Helbert. He proposed a week later, and they married on February 2, 1947. Frank and Reva celebrated nearly sixty-three years of marriage together residing in Sidney, Nebraska, Denver, Colorado, Boise, Idaho, Las Vegas, Nevada, Beaver, Utah and Henderson, Nevada. Frank lovingly referred to Reva as “my bride”. He preceded her in death passing away in December of 2009.
Frank and Reva had seven children: Glenda Shaw, Peggy Oxborrow, Daniel Helbert, Michael Helbert, Bruce Helbert, Kelly McDonald and Teresa Bodney. Reva is survived by all her children, eighteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren as well as her sister Dottie Loos and brother Kenneth Overmiller.
Reva was renown for her savory pot roast dinners and gravy hosting many friends and guests at her dinner table. Her home, and later in life her home with her daughter Glenda, was a warm and welcoming destination where she hosted many family gatherings where humorous stories and fond memories were shared with family and friends.
As a devoted mother, Reva would travel and spend precious time with her children and their spouses helping them with each newborn infant. Our homes are replete with photographs of Reva cradling her grandchildren and great grandchildren in her loving arms. She was a great comfort to all who knew her.
Although she suffered from macular degeneration during the last twenty years and endured many other hardships during her ninety plus years with us, she accepted the challenges which life presented treating them as her cross to bear without acrimony or complaints. Reva wishes to be remembered as a devoted Christian woman who has now been called to an eternal home. She was truly a blessing to all who had the privilege to know her, and she was a mother to many more than her extended family.
A private burial service will be held on April 21st at 9:30 am at Palm Mortuary attended by immediate family members. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am at “The Terrace” events center located at 1361 West Warm Springs Road, Henderson, Nevada 89014 followed by a luncheon and Celebration of Life in the same location.
