Rhoda Dybvig Schaefer

Rhoda Dybvig Schaefer, 86, of Henderson, Nevada passed away on December 31, 2013. She grew up in a family of nine siblings, one of whom, Bob, is her twin. The family lived in Colton, South Dakota, a small farming community where the family operated a nursery. Rhoda graduated from Colton High School and then went on to graduate from the University of Northern Iowa. She then studied at the National University of Mexico in Mexico City where she received her Master’s degree in Spanish in 1966. Rhoda spent most of her career teaching Spanish. Her final 21 years were with the Clark County school district in Las Vegas. She retired in 1987. Rhoda married Les Schaefer on October 11, 1968. They enjoyed a great deal of travel together. Les passed away in 1999. Rhoda loved to travel and did so extensively during her lifetime. She spoke and taught Spanish so fluently for so many years that she would often mix English and Spanish in conversation. She also enjoyed politics and the financial world. Rhoda was a people person. Everything she did was done with gusto. She lived life to the max. Perhaps what gave Rhoda her greatest pleasure was keeping track of her family as well as all of her friends. She will be deeply missed.
