

Richard L Howenstein passed peacefully at his home in Henderson Nevada Friday, November 8, 2019. He was born April 21, 1926 in Detroit Michigan and upon the death of his mother, Gladys Rocheleau-Howenstein in 1927 he relocated with his father and brothers to the family home in southern Illinois. The family moved to Indianapolis Indiana in 1941 where Richard lived and worked and raised his family until his relocation to Henderson, Nevada in 2001. Following service in the United States Navy in World War II and the Korean War he began his career at the Allison Division of General Motors in service parts sales and administration retiring in 1990 after 38 years of service. He was a charter member of the Indianapolis chapter of the Society of Logistic Engineers. Richard was preceded in death by the two loves of his life, wife Ann Irwin Howenstein, the mother of his two sons, in 1974 after 27 years of marriage and later by his wife Linda Miller Howenstein in 2008 after 32 years of marriage.
He was also preceded in death by son Gary, father Gerald and stepmother Mary Underwood Howenstein, and brothers Harold and Gene. He is survived by son Richard C. (Petra), grandchildren, Keri Drake (Roland), Amanda Gentry (Brad), Richard Howenstein II (Kylie), Nicholas Howenstein, and great-granddaughters Allie and Kiera Gentry as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Also his sister-in-law Candis Ogden, her daughter Lynde (John) and their son Leo. He is also survived by his beloved dog of many years, Gingi. Richard was cherished by family, friends, and neighbors for his kind, generous and loving spirit. He was a long time member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM, Funeral service at 2:00 followed by a celebration of Richard’s life at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Richard will be laid to rest at Palm Valley View Memorial Park next to his late wife Linda.
