Victor was born in Brackettville, Texas on September 23, 1936, the second child to Victor A and Theresa Urbina Garcia. Always interested in exploring the world and culture, Victor enlisted in the Army in 1958 and was stationed in Germany. It was in Germany where he found the “greatest gift” of his life, his “striking” German bride, Tilly Riedl. Together, they taught each other their native languages and discovered the many interests they would share for the next sixty years, including art, music, dance, gardening, nature, family, and an enduring devotion to God.
Victor and Tilly moved to Los Angeles in 1962, where Victor worked diligently while also attending college at night for accounting. He often recalled those early days fondly, sharing warm stories of returning home late only to find his wife waiting for him, ready to share a meal before retiring together. His life would be characterized by this same tradition of commitment, dedication, and faithfulness to family. Their first of three children was born in Los Angeles in 1964 and soon thereafter, Victor accepted a position in Las Vegas where his daughters were born. He remained in Las Vegas the remainder of his life.
Victor is survived by his devoted wife of fifty-eight years, Tilly; son Victor (Alma) Garcia of Carlsbad, CA; daughters Undine (Barry) Ard and Gretchen (Steven) Grierson of Henderson, NV; six grandchildren - Karla, Alexa, Anthony, Andrew, Rebekah, and Katie; cousin Frank (Penny) Urbina; five nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, younger brother Juan, older sister Julia, and nephew Ben.
Victor will be remembered as a true gentleman- elegant, steadfast, kind and noble. His tremendous and immeasurable love for his family, visible joy in the presence of his grandchildren, love for his animals, especially his cat Honeygirl, signature hug and unexpected wit will be profoundly missed.
