Virginia J Calaguan

Virginia Javate Calaguan, 90, passed away peacefully in her home on December 12, 2024, surrounded by her loving family and caregiver Belinda. She is survived by her three children, Eliza (Ferdinand) Calaguan Algas, Elizabeth (Rick) Calaguan Aguayo, and Ray (Rachel Post) Calaguan Jr., along with her cherished grandchildren, Katelyn Algas Jusino, Alexa Algas, Sofia Algas, Mia Aguayo, and Mateo Aguayo.

Virginia was born on December 20, 1933, in Jaen, Nueva Ecija, Philippines, to Pacita and Cayetano Javate. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Raymundo Calaguan, and her parents.

A woman of grace, resilience, and talent, Virginia lived a life full of love and adventure. She pursued her passion for medicine by studying Pharmacy and proudly owned her own drugstore in the Philippines. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Raymundo. Together, they embarked on a remarkable journey, moving to the United States to support Ray’s medical residency in Boston, Massachusetts.

While raising three children, Virginia devoted herself to her family and found joy in her many creative pursuits. A gifted artist in crochet, she created stunning afghans and quilts, each a labor of love. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where she prepared traditional Filipino dishes handed down through generations, bringing comfort and connection to her family.

The Calaguan family later settled in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where Virginia and Ray raised their children and became devoted Green Bay Packers fans. In their retirement years, the couple moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where they enjoyed an active and fulfilling life. Together, they traveled the world, built lasting friendships, and shared countless memories.

In her later years, Virginia remained a source of strength and inspiration. Her dedication to fitness and her daily walks and aerobics classes were a testament to her spirited nature. She was a woman of warmth, strength, and determination—a true "tough cookie" who left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Her devoted caregivers, Belinda Bacayo and Felicita Lopez, provided exceptional care during her final years, and the family is eternally grateful for their compassion and dedication. Virginia was in the best hands, and the family will forever cherish their kindness and love. Special thanks also go to Annette, Maria, and the staff of ProCare Hospice, who supported the family through both Ray and Virginia’s end-of-life journeys. Their compassion and guidance have been a saving grace.

Virginia will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by her family and friends. Her legacy of love, artistry, and resilience will live on through the generations she inspired.

Funeral mass will be held for Virginia at 2pm on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Las Vegas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to ProCare Hospice or a charity of your choice in Virginia’s memory.
