

Dr. Jones, 74, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, devoted Dallas Cowboy fan, and highly respected professor and mentor at UNLV, passed away July 26, 2014, peacefully at home after a valiant five month effort to overcome a devastating injury. He earned a B.A. and M.A. in Psychology from Eastern New Mexico University, and an Ed.D. in Counseling from New Mexico State University. He joined the UNLV faculty in 1987 after working as a psychologist in full-time private practice in Las Vegas. At the time of his death, he was a full professor in the College Of Education, Department Of Educational Psychology and Higher Education. He held state psychologist licenses in Nevada and New Mexico, was listed in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology, and was a fellow in the National Academy of Neuropsychology. He had numerous articles in refereed professional journals and authored/co-authored textbooks in his field. Prior to moving to Las Vegas, he worked as a research psychologist for IBM and held faculty and administrative positions at New Mexico State University. He had professional interest and experience in school psychology, test development, and mental health counseling. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ravae Jones; sister Nancy Jones; brother Walter Jones; sister-in-law Judy Jones; daughter Donna Bales; stepchildren Steven Shircliff, Michael Shircliff, Ravae Wilson; son-in-law James Wilson; seven grandchildren, Alicia Fay, grandson-in-law Paul Fay, Kari Bales, Christy Bales, Trevor Wilson, Lindsay Wilson, Jenna Wilson, and Michael Adams. A memorial service for family, friends, and colleagues is being planned. The date is yet to be determined.
