Wardette Waine‘e Cabanatan, 58, of ʻEwa Beach, Hawai‘i, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving ʻohana. She was born on April 10, 1967, in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, to Douglas and Laura Hiu.
Wardette was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend. She was the heart of her family — a warm, loving presence who made everyone feel at home. Known for her quick wit, infectious laugh, and unshakable strength, Wardette brightened every room she entered.
She loved watching classic movies, especially old romantic comedies, and could always be found humming along to her favorite tunes — from Hawaiian classics to ’80s ballads. She had a sweet tooth that matched her sweet soul, never turning down a slice of cake or a scoop of ice cream (especially rocky road). Her greatest joy, though, was spending time with her family. Movie night was a family tradition.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 37 years, Steve Cabanatan; her sons, Dustin and Bryson Cabanatan; her adored grandsons, Tidus, Chase, and Cameron; her siblings, Nylene Pahukoa, Deric Hiu, and Monique Hiu; and many dear relatives and lifelong friends.
Wardette’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and resilience. She leaves behind a family bound together by her compassion and guided by the wisdom she shared. Her spirit will continue to shine in every sunset, every shared smile, and every story told.
