

Dr. Wilbert Carl Whitney Jr. was born to the late Wilbert and Odessa Whitney on September 29, 1937 in Harlem, New York. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Alonzo M. Whitney, of Lake Worth, Florida; sister Maxine Patterson of Indianapolis, Indiana; and daughter Dawn Whitney.
Dr. Whitney retired from Nassau County Board of Cooperative Educational Services in 1996. He received his Bachelors of Science from Tenn. State University in Nashville, Tennessee; two Masters from The City College of New York and a Doctorate from the University of Las Vegas in the field of Education. He served as the Director of the Association of Children with Learning Disabilities. He was very entrepreneurial and was the CEO and the Executive Director of Leisure Time Experiences. Through this program Mentally Challenged Young Adults became exposed to many recreational opportunities. They experienced skiing, bowling, basketball, scuba diving, trips to the amusement parks, museums, cruises and trips out of the country. He took pride in being self-sufficient and being able to care for his own children and others.
Upon his retirement, Dr. Whitney moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1999 and traveled the world; his favorite country was Mexico.
On August 13, 2018, Dr. Whitney passed away leaving sons Wilbert and Alonzo; two loving daughters-in-law Ani and Christina; two loving grandchildren Madi Hope and Jaden; a loving ex-wife Sandy Mullen; and a host of other family members and friends.
