Remembering Cindy
Cindy was a beautiful handcrafted flower, a masterpiece of God, who loved her family dearly.
Cindy Renee (Wilson) Davis was born on October 7, 1971 in Takoma Park, Maryland, the daughter of Patrick and Joi Wilson and the younger sister of Alysa. Her mother referred to little Cindy as “a sweet bundle of joy with a quick mind and loveable personality.” As a child, Cindy was eager to please and loved to leave apology sticky-notes when she made mistakes. As Cindy reached school age, her achievements and behavior were notable; her teacher stated, “I wish all my students were like Cindy.”
Cindy attended elementary church schools in Takoma Park, Maryland and later Fredericksburg, Virginia. Among her extracurricular activities were many memorable afternoons in the family pool, which enabled her to become an avid swimmer. Cindy enjoyed being helpful from a young age, and exhibited a particular talent in the kitchen, often preferring to bake her own birthday cakes. Her skills and enthusiasm for doing hair and makeup also became apparent early on to her family and friends.
As a teenager, Cindy attended Takoma Academy, where she joined the cheerleading squad, and served as a lifeguard during summer breaks. She also attended and graduated from Pine Forge Academy, where she was a member of the choir and was known for her outgoing and fun-loving personality.
Cindy lived most of her adult life in Northern Virginia, and more recently in Orlando, Florida. She was baptized in the Community Praise Center Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Cindy’s interests and aspirations took her in the direction of becoming a certified aesthetician. At age 21, Cindy earned her aesthetician’s license by sitting for an exam while experiencing labor pains. Later that same day, Cindy and her then-husband, Michael Davis, became the proud parents of Christopher.
Cindy was a proud, loving mother who instilled in Christopher a willingness to help others and her knack for offering kind words to people in need. She taught him to be courteous, respectful, and to stand up for those who are not able to stand up for themselves. To this day, Christopher upholds these qualities inspired by his mother. Christopher also maintains ‘great lips’ from a lifetime of copiously applying the Chap Stick that Cindy always insisted that he carry in his pocket.
A multitude of friends knew Cindy as the life of the party and by her notorious “Heyyyyyyyy...” that always announced her entrance into a room. Cindy had a lifelong interest in the music and sports industries, and she had aspirations of owning her own business. Cindy was a dreamer…she was always searching for the “one thing" that was going to put her on the map. Her adventures took her many interesting places and she interacted with amazing people.
Throughout difficult struggles in her life, Cindy was able to retain her sense of care giving, showing her love by being there for those most in need. Many lives were touched by her spontaneous generosity and thoughtfulness. On June 29, 2011, her life came to a sudden and unexpected end…a delicate flower whose life ended far too soon. With sadness but also with much love, she is remembered by her family and friends. Cindy is survived by her son Christopher Davis, father Patrick Wilson, mother Joi Tivy, sister Alysa Gorham, nephews Donovan Wilson and Wesley Gorham, niece Jaelyn Gorham, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
“We love her deeply and our hearts will always feel a deep sense of loss.”
