AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Jennie A Delk

12 mai 1931 – 17 juillet 2020
AUX SOINS DE

Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services

On this day, July 17, 2020, our beloved Jan’s life came to an end and we are writing to tell you so. Her life was filled with all that inspired her, and all that boundless energy let her accomplish, in a life she lived so well.

Her professional life of pharmacy was one she truly enjoyed; that alternated with events she called “adventures.” These “adventures” included everything from canoeing each river from the Texas source to the Gulf, to biking the Appalachian Trail. Her pharmacy profession took her to Hawaii where she lived for two wonderful years. At other times - she traveled to the interior of Mexico before the existence of Cancun in an old red Dodge camper, an adventure that became a book of her co-writing. Later, she made trips to Alaska, climbed Pikes Peak and mountains in Africa, and in Mexico. She and Tom went to China on the “People to People” program. In Europe, Jan biked the shores of the Danube with her friends of long standing. She and Tom did a lot of sailing in the Caribbean, enjoying every exotic stopover. When not working, one of her favorite hobbies was oil painting - her favorite subjects being sailboats and Aspen trees. Her musical talents included playing the piano, mandolin, ukulele and a “mean” tenor sax. Who knew our unassuming Jan was so incredibly accomplished, talented and adventurous?

Not to be forgotten was her abiding love of nature and “all creatures great and small.” These were abundant in the surroundings of the home she shared with her beloved pets, where she had many trails to hike, bike and beautiful Lake Austin to view and enjoy.

Jan was a constant inspiration and support to her family and her many friends. She was admired and loved, by her niece Emily Alexander and two nephews - John and Jamie Heidt - who were often included on a canoe trip or campout and even a trip to Hawaii.

So, as we give thanks for the life of Jenny Ann Arthur Delk, we find great comfort in knowing that Jan thought of her life as being, in her words: “just about perfect!” Indeed it was, she knew and we all know, that so many made it so.

Jan loved a certain prayer from "The Book of Common Prayer," and it seemed to us to be a beautiful benediction for her now:

"O’ Lord, support us all the day long until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, then, in thy mercy, grant us a safe lodging, and a holy rest and peace at the last." Amen.

She is also survived by her great nieces, great nephews and an adoring sister, Millie Scott, who will miss her terribly.
