Dr. John Anthony Macaluso of Leander, TX, was united with his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the age of 86. John died peacefully in his home with his amazing wife, Lorraine Anita Macaluso, by his side as she had been for 64 years…faithful, steadfast, and completely in love since childhood.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, on July 22, 1938, as the eldest of three children to his parents Anthony John and Teresa Helena Macaluso, John was never content to be an ordinary kid. He was friendly, athletic, and handsome and a man of deep intelligence. John cruised through school and graduated from West Catholic High School in Philadelphia then attended Villanova University where he received his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering in 1960. After a brief time as a Junior Engineer at Remington-Rand Univac in Blue Bell, PA, John accepted an engineering position at the Ordinance Research Lab (later named Applied Research Lab) at Penn State University. While working full time, John earned his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1965, his Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering Acoustics in 1970, and his Professional Engineer license for Pennsylvania in 1983. He continued his work at Penn State until his retirement in 1999.
John and Lorraine met when they were 12 and 11 years old, respectively. They officially reconnected when John asked Lorraine to the Villanova University junior dinner dance. From that point, they were hooked. John and Lorraine were married in 1960 in Mechanicsburg, PA, and honeymooned in Niagara Falls. They started a family, moved from Philadelphia to State College, and bought their first home. Ten years later, John and Lorraine accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior and attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. They moved to Austin, TX, in 2002 and later moved to Leander, TX, in 2007.
It's impossible to have known John without an acute awareness of his 54-year struggle with Multiple Sclerosis. There is no better word to describe his life than faithful. He faithfully arrived at work every day at 8:00 am. He was faithfully devoted to his wife and family. And most importantly, he was faithful to daily prayer and in his walk with the Lord. John certainly entered Heaven’s gates to hear the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
John is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine, his three children, John (Elizabeth) Macaluso, Teresa (Ben Hutchinson) Macaluso, and Daniel (Shanin) Macaluso, his sisters, Mary Ann (Ronald) Thomas and Elaine (Eddie, predeceased) Tack, ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and many loving family members. John’s family would like to thank the skilled and compassionate members of his care team from Three Oaks Hospice.
His wonderful church family will hold a memorial service for John at 3:00 pm on November 29, 2024, at Believers Church, 1650 CO RD 270, Leander, TX, 78641.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to ROCK at rockride.org, where John was treated through equine therapy every week for ten years with genuine love and kindness.
