

Joseph Eugene Henkel was born June 24, 1940 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Joseph F. and Agnes (Steinmetz) Henkel. He passed from this life July 11, 2023 at his home near Georgetown, Texas at the age of 83. Joseph proudly served his country for 8 years in the National Guard.
In 1963 he, along with his family, moved to Rochester, Mn where he received an Associates degree in Business from Rochester Community College in 1965. In June of that year, he joined IBM Rochester. During college, he met the love of his life, Bonnie Stafford, and they were married in April of 1966 in Dodge Center, Mn. In 1980 he was transferred to Austin, Tx where he continued to work as an Industrial Engineer until he retired.
He enjoyed playing golf and watching sports. Win or lose, he was a devoted fan of the Detroit Lions, Tigers and Redwings, as well as the Michigan Wolverines. He also enjoyed playing Fantasy football, especially on his son, Jason’s league.
Joseph was a member of St. Rosa de Lima Catholic Church of Georgetown and a former member of the Men’s Club at St. Thomas More Catholic Church of Austin.
For many years, he looked forward to the monthly poker nights and the annual Port A fishing trips with his friends from St Thomas More. He also volunteered as a driver for Faith in Action in Georgetown for many years. After retirement, the couple spent summers in Minnesota where Joseph golfed and enjoyed other outings with his friends.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Bob Henkel. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bonnie Henkel; son, Jason Henkel; daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Nick Carter; grandchildren, Mason, Madison, Logan and Riley; sister-in-law, Bobbie Henkel; brother-in-law, Marvin Stafford and wife Dee; sister-in-law, Betty Blood and husband Doug; nieces and nephews, Christie Henkel, Dan and Kelly Henkel, Jeff and Patti Henkel and Greg and Kimberly Henkel; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and of course, his beloved Molly.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 1:30pm at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2700 E University Ave, Georgetown, TX 78626.
