“You can live in any city in America, but New Orleans is the only city that lives in you,” chronicled journalist Chris Rose after Hurricane Katrina. This statement surely applied to Lori Lee Knaps, 67, a proud Louisianian who passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 in Leander, Texas.
Born on October 19, 1955, Lori's kind spirit touched the lives of everyone she met. Much like her homestate, Lori was welcoming, resilient, and fun. She always had room in her heart (and home) for one more furry friend. Lori’s devotion to her community was also evident. As a 911 operator, she tirelessly served and protected her neighbors with the utmost care and compassion. For her contributions, Williamson County recently honored Lori with the Legacy Award.
Lori is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Knaps, eleven children, nineteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three puppies. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched and the memories of her infectious laughter, warm hugs and avid love of Harry Potter.
Lori's passing reminds us of the wise words of Dumbledore: "After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure." While we grieve her loss, we take comfort in knowing that Lori is embarking on a new adventure, surrounded by love and light. Rest in peace, dear friend. Enjoy that second line in the sky!
A celebration of Lori's life will be held on May 20, 2023, at the Southwest Williamson County Regional Park at 12:30pm. In honor of Lori’s love for animals, the family asks that donations be made in lieu of flowers to Texas Humane Heroes at humaneheroes.org/donate/.
