Margie Ann Mines

Margie was born on April 10th, 1935 in Fort Worth, Texas, to Rev. J.T. and Genevieve DeLoach and spent her formative years in Texas where her father pastored Baptist churches and her family grew to include younger brother, Roy Lynn DeLoach. She graduated from Stephen F Austin High School in Houston in 1953, and kept lifelong friendships from that time as well as her years in college. Margie studied at Baylor University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and English. She was known as a true friend and a prankster by her classmates and friends. She met her future husband, Donald Mines, a 1st-year seminary student on a blind date to see a movie. Despite the fact Friendly Persuasion was the movie on the screen that night in 1956, Don recalls that Margie would not let him hold her hand, but she did invite him to be her guest at a Baylor student dinner. They dated for a year before marrying in 1958 at North End Baptist Church in Beaumont, where J.T. was pastoring, honeymooned on Galveston Island, and continued holding hands for 66 years of marriage.

After seminary, Don and Margie served in churches in Southeast Texas and their young family grew to include daughter Danna and son Steve. In 1965 the Mines were appointed to serve as Southern Baptist missionaries in Argentina, and moved there after language studies in Costa Rica. Soon after arriving in Argentina, a second son, David, was born in Córdoba, and they ministered there as well as in Bahía Blanca and Buenos Aires until 1997. Margie was active in the work of the Baptist Women’s Union and in later years, in an English-language Bible study group which extended her ministry to families from the world over. Margie would often say that moving to Argentina was one of God’s most gracious gifts in her life and that their ministry there brought her deep inner healing, restoration, grace, rest, peace, joy, patience, and freedom. Her faith led her to share the Gospel through her missionary roles, outreach to her neighbors and friends, and a disciplined and personal prayer ministry. Margie considered any encounter, whether with a stranger or a friend, as an opportunity to connect personally and share God’s love.

In 1981 daughter Danna was killed in a tragic vehicle accident in Texas where she was beginning her college studies. In the midst of their grief and loss, Margie and Don grew to accept the sufficiency of God’s grace. Through this, Margie was able to authentically extend that grace to others, avoiding simplistic answers, always willing to accompany them in their own suffering.

After 33 years in Argentina, Margie and Don retired and settled in Pflugerville in 1998. Returning to Texas allowed Margie to spend more time with her family, which grew to include daughter-in law Melissa and grandchildren Sarah and Benjamin. In her free time, Margie loved to capture God’s beauty through photography and would share her work with friends by making greeting cards. Her favorite subjects included flowers, clouds, and her family members. In retirement, Margie continued her friendships, both with visits in their home and travel abroad, and was active in prayer and Bible study groups at both First Baptist Austin and First Baptist Church Round Rock.

Margie wrote that in her early years, she felt an earnest calling to do God’s will. She recounted the moment in her childhood when she and her family were driving along the side of a road with a steep drop down below. She was scared, but felt the voice of God telling her that she should not be afraid and that God had big plans for her life. To those who knew her, Margie’s life was defined by sharing her love for Jesus Christ and others and an obedience to God’s will for her life.

She is survived by her husband, Don, sons Steve and David (Melissa), brother Roy (Sandy), and grandchildren Sarah (23) and Benjamin (21). She is preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Genevieve DeLoach, and her daughter Danna.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Margie will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 1:30 PM at First Baptist Church Round Rock, 306 Round Rock Ave, Round Rock, TX 78664. A time of visitation and fellowship with the family to follow immediately after at the church. Margie nació el 10 de abril de 1935 en Fort Worth, Texas, hija del pastor J.T. y su esposa Genevieve DeLoach. Se crio en Texas, junto con su hermano menor, Roy Lynn DeLoach, donde sus padres ministraron en varias iglesias bautistas. En 1953 se recibió de la escuela secundaria Stephen F. En 1965, partieron de su país natal para radicarse como misioneros bautistas en Argentina, después de haber cursado estudios de español en Costa Rica. Poco después de instalarse en Córdoba, nació David, su segundo hijo varón, y trabajaron allí, en Bahía Blanca y Buenos Aires, hasta su jubilación en 1997.

Margie participó activamente de la obra de las Mujeres Bautistas Argentinas, en la enseñanza y en estudios bíblicos y de oración, tanto en español como en inglés. Su ministerio alcanzó a mujeres y familias de la comunidad internacional en Buenos Aires. Margie solía decir que el hecho de haber formado su hogar y desarrollado su ministerio en Argentina fue uno de los regalos más generosos de Dios. Esto produjo en ella profunda sanación interior, restauración, gracia, descanso, paz, alegría, paciencia y libertad.

Su fe la llevó a compartir el Evangelio a través de su obra misionera, y de un ministerio disciplinado de oración personal que alcanzó a vecinos y amistades. Para Margie, cualquier encuentro, ya fuese con un recién conocido o con una amiga íntima, era una oportunidad para conectarse personalmente y compartir el amor de Dios.

En 1981, su hija Danna murió en un trágico accidente automovilístico en Texas, cuando apenas comenzaba sus estudios universitarios. En medio de su enorme dolor y duelo, Margie y Don aprendieron a aceptar la suficiencia de la gracia de Dios. Esta experiencia la marcó y le permitió compartir con otros esta misma gracia de una manera auténtica, evitando respuestas simplistas y estando siempre dispuesta a acompañar el sufrimiento de otros.

Después de más de tres décadas en Argentina, Margie y Don se jubilaron y llegaron a radicarse en 1998 en Pflugerville, en las afueras de Austin. Para sus allegados, la vida de Margie estuvo marcada por su afán de compartir su amor por Jesucristo y por las personas, así como por su obediencia en seguir la voluntad de Dios para su vida.

En el duelo la despiden su esposo, Don, sus hijos Esteban y David, junto con su esposa Melissa y sus nietos Sarah (23) y Benjamín (21), su hermano Roy y su esposa Sandy, y sus sobrinos y sobrinas. Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, J.T. y Genevieve DeLoach, y su hija Danna.
