Born and raised in Oklahoma, Pat graduated from Oklahoma State University and moved to Tulsa, working for Continental Airlines. This is where she met her husband, John Carlson. They soon found themselves transferred to Houston where they lived for the next 30 years. Once her children were in elementary school, she went back to school to get her Texas teaching certificate and taught 1st and 2nd grade for the next 20 some odd years.
She was a life long fan of sports, particularly football and played golf frequently after she retired with her husband and grandson.
She and her husband loved to travel and had many great adventure across the US.
In their many travels they:
*Hiked the Grand Canyon.
*They traveled north to Alaska coming as close as they could to the Arctic Circle by vehicle, traveling by logging roads and whatever means they could. Sleeping in their specially outfitted stretch van.
*They bicycled over Vail Pass in Colorado, starting at Copper Mountain, outside of Breckenridge and arriving in Vail itself.
*They bicycled along the shore of Lake Champlain in Vermont by day and sleeping on a schooner at night as they toured the area for a week.
*They traveled by train across Canada, which include "dome cars" allowing for amazing views of the country side.
Big fans of the Rocky Mountains, they spent summers and winters there, skiing, hiking and traveling jeep trails over breath taking mountain passes far above the tree line.
In addition to traveling, Pat enjoyed painting, played golf, bridge and quilting,
completing a king size quilt for her bed that was quilted entirely by hand.
She had a great sense of humor, love for her family and enjoyed meeting new people.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Carlson.
