Robert Edward Schanafelt, affectionately known as Bob, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 18th after an exhaustive battle with congestive heart failure. Robert, known as “Eddie” as a child, was born to John Jay Schanafelt and Martha Jane (Harris) Schanafelt on January 21, 1950, in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He spent most of his youth in Tulsa, Oklahoma, graduating from Nathan Hale High School in 1968, marrying his high school sweetheart Carol Ann Bush, and joining the Army Reserves. Bob worked in the corporate insurance business for many years, and eventually moved to Houston working as the Regional Sales Manager for Mutual of Omaha. Once settling with his family in Houston, Bob became an active member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, serving as a Committeeman and eventually becoming a Life Member. Later in life, he was remarried to Charlyn (Grosskopf) Schanafelt, who preceded him in death in 2015. Bob was a proud and loving father and a doting Papa/Pawpa. He made many friends along the way, and to this day is loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his son Robert Darren Schanafelt and his wife Dawn of Eugene, Oregon; his daughter Catherine Diane (Schanafelt) Ford and her husband Ryan of Leander, Texas; as well as four beautiful grandchildren, Madelyn & Lauren Ford, and Clara & Trevor Schanafelt. He is also survived by his brother John Schanafelt and his wife Alicia of Alabama, as well as his step-daughter Chelsea and her husband Hauker Hallsteinsson of Iceland.
A visitation for Robert will be held Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 1200 S. Bagdad, Leander, TX 78641, followed by a memorial service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
