Sam Anthony Acquisto 90, went to join our heavenly father on July 19, 2022, while sleeping and dreaming of finally being able to reunite with his wife (Barbara and his daughter Anita). Sam lived the last 3 years in different independent and assisted living homes in Cedar Park, Texas. He will be truly missed. Sam was a very sweet and kind gentleman. Everyone enjoyed his company and kindness. He was born on September 22, 1931, in Libertyville, Illinois to Gaitano Acquisto (Thomas August) and Theresa Marie Acquisto (Theresa Schifanella).
Sam had a wonderful life and in his younger years he resided in Birmingham, Alabama, where he attended high School and College and received his law degree. He was an extremely hard-working individual. Also, this is where he met the love of his life, Barbara Powers. Even though they did not hit it off right away (he had to ask her 2 times and the third time she asked him), they did finally get married July 8, 1953, in Columbus, Mississippi. They had 4 beautiful girls Anita, Kathy, Judy, and Tommie. These girls were the light of his life. He cherished them immensely until his last days. When the girls were growing up Sam and Barbara always traveled the Southwest attending swim meets for all the girls.
Sam had a wonderful career with the Internal Revenue Service. Most of his time was spent on auditing non-profit organizations, but he also spent a lot of time in the late seventies and early eighties working on a proposed flat tax. Which we all hoped would come to fruition. He spent most of his time in different cities throughout Alabama. In 1975, the family made a big move to Round Rock, Texas. They really enjoyed these years playing golf, entertaining family, and friends, and enjoying the Balcones Country Club. As life sometimes dictates another move was in the works. In 1979, the IRS transferred Sam and his family again to the Dallas area, where Sam would finally retire. Sam spent his retirement years working for many different entities including HR Block, Real Estate companies, etc. Sam continued to live around the Dallas area until April 2019, when he finally made the move to Cedar Park to be closer to family.
During his retirement he also played tons of golf and fulfilled his need to travel to all fifty states with his grandchildren, Todd, and Tyler. He also participated in various Veteran activities including helping his grandson become commissioned in the US Army (Tyler) and attending the Freedom Honor flight to Washington DC (Todd).
After going to Las Vegas for their 25th Wedding Anniversary. Sam and Barbara enjoyed Vegas so much they continued to go regularly (several times a year). In September 2021 Sam and his family went back to celebrate Sam’s 90th Birthday.
One of Sam’s lifelong dreams was to travel to see his ancestral home in Casteltermini, Sicily. In 2006, his dreams were answered. He first went to London, England and toured the entire city. He loved Picadilly square, Harrod’s, especially the ice cream shop on the first floor. From there he travelled to Rome, Italy, where he enjoyed so much. Even though he didn’t have a chance to go into the Vatican, he thought that it was so beautiful. When we finally made it to Palermo, Sicily he was very excited to go to Casteltermini. We had a wonderful trip to this beautiful little town in the hills of Sicily. He felt very much at home due to his name was on every establishment in the town.
Sam is survived by his three daughters Kathy (Garry), Judy (Gary), Tommie (Tony) and 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Plus, there are countless family around the country.
A graveside for Sam will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2022 from 10:15 AM to 10:45 PM at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.wcfishleander.com for the Acquisto family.
