Scott Damon McKnight

Scott had friends and trusted colleagues around the world, thanks in great part to his storied 40 year domestic and international law enforcement career, which began in 1977 with the Big Spring Police Department. With the signing of the 1995 Dayton Peace Accords, Scott traveled to the Balkans in January 1996 to serve with the United Nations War Crime Tribunal in Bosnia. In March of 2000, Scott joined ICITAP-Kosovo’s mission – initially as a specialized training instructor and later as chief of bilateral training for what was then known as the Kosovo Police Service School (KPSS) in Vushtrri (and now the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety). In 2005, Scott became ICITAP’s Field Operations Manager in the Balkans until December 2017 when he concluded his international mission and returned home to Texas.

Scott made a difference to everyone he met and he helped many in any way he could. He supported dozens of families in Kosovo, in Bosnia, and in Banja Luka. Scott was a very kind-hearted person, who didn’t have time to think about himself while working always to help others. No stranger behind the wheel, he would never think twice about traveling a thousand kilometers to deliver goods to people around the Balkans.

Scott is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Aaron & Chelsee McKnight of Austin Texas, his brother, James McKnight of Greenbriar Arkansas, and sister Linda Vigil of New Mexico.

In lieu of flowers the family asks to make a donation to the American Cancer Society.
