Tom was a kind, sweet, honest, and loving man. He loved me, his children, his friends, and his faithful companion, Heidi. She is his cocker spaniel that he found at a puppy farm. She had served her usefulness and was about to be put down. He loved that little dog and you would see them... everywhere around the complex. He had so many friends and they all loved him. He was an Irishman through and through. He kissed The Blarney stone and was given the gift of gab and storytelling. His mother was born in Ireland, and he knew how to turn on that Irish brogue when telling his stories. He was also a Navy veteran serving in Viet Nam. He was a fighter and fought a courageous battle with cancer. In fact the day before his passing, he told me he was fighting like hell and how much he loved me. Those were his last words to me.
Tom was born in Ft. Worth, Texas to parents Joseph Pickens and Edith Louise Kirkland on December 23rd, 1945.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings. He was also preceded by two children son, Sean Kirkland and baby daughter Erin Kirkland.
Thomas leaves behind three children. Son, Kevin Kirkland (wife Gina) granddaughter Kylie. Daughters Holly Kirkland Pulido (husband Fred) grandchildren Kevin and Edith Monceaux. Daughter Gena Thornell (husband Hoffert). He has one living brother Patrick Kirkland (wife Fran).
Tom wanted for his life to be celebrated in the Irish way. He wanted a party with bagpipes and his favorite song an Irish tenor. He wanted all the women to wear red which he said was the color of celebration.
Due to recent Covid increase we will be having that service at a later date. All will be notified. Please check back with his page at this facility.
