Cathy Bowie-Joyner went home to the Lord on December 2, 2024. Born March 12, 1945 in Lebanon, she was the only child of Samuel and Mildred King. She is survived by her husband Edward Joyner; a son Samuel Bowie and wife Stephanie of West Palm Beach, FL; a daughter Shelly Bowie-Gonzalez and husband Jose of Lebanon; 5 grandchildren: Samantha, Gabby and Marcus, Jasmine and Sierra and 3 great-grandchildren, Ryvre, Benjamin and Dorothy. Nothing was more important to Cathy or brought her more joy than her family. She worried about them; rooted for them; protected them; got angry at them; forgave them; and always kept on loving them. Cathy lived her entire life in Lebanon and worked 7 years at the Bayer Corporation and 24 years at Hershey Foods before retiring. She also worked serving food at Ft. Indiantown Gap during the Vietnam conflict. Cathy was a lifelong member of St. John’s AME Church. It was at the church where Cathy met Edward, who she married in 2018. He had devoted himself to her health and happiness. Cathy often said she felt Edward was an answer to her prayers. Cathy devoted herself to God, her church and our community as a missionary and volunteer. She served as an usher at the church; served noon day meals at Lebanon Christian Ministries; listened to people around her; offered prayer to those who were in need and never missed an opportunity to point those in her life in the right direction. Cathy was a fierce woman- holding fast to her beliefs, defending those she loved, always seeking to better herself and pushing those around her to be their best selves. She was not afraid to speak up. She never left you guessing where she stood, but also knowing that her words came from a place of love. Cathy lived life with great confidence. She laughed out loud (both at you and with you); teased, played and traveled and never shied away from a new experience. She devoured God’s word and prayed every day for her family and everyone else. Family and friends are invited to join in Cathy’s memorial service on Saturday December 7, 2024 at 3:30pm, in the Rohland Funeral Home 508 Cumberland St., Lebanon, PA 17042. A celebration of Cathy’s life will follow. It was Cathy’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to the National Kidney Foundation HQ, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016. https//support.kidney.org/.
