

James Garrett Swearingen, 85, of Rexmont, passed away on Tuesday, January 21st, 2014 in Linden Village. He was born in Folkston, Ga., a son of the late G. Van and Naomi Russell Swearingen. James was the husband of Anita Dishong Swearingen to whom he was married to for 55 years. Mr. Swearingen was employed proudly in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1972 as a Chief Machinist Mate where he served on 6 different ships before he retired, then was employed by M.S. Hershey Med. Center from 1972- 1989 where he retired. He held 2 part time jobs, with Bon Ton, Lebanon and Harry Sechrist of Quality Coal, Lebanon. He was a member of the Navy Club Ship 91, Fleet Reserve Assoc. and Navy Memorial Foundation. His interests included Hunting, Fishing and Gardening. James served his country in the U.S. Navy including 2 Tours in Vietnam. Surviving in addition to his wife are his son: Ray Anthony Swearingen of Lebanon; grandson: Jude D., husband of Kelly Swearingen, Yulee, Fla; great grandson: Anthony Kaden Swearingen, Palmyra; great granddaughters: Jaycee and Rhyan Swearingen both of Yulee, Fla; sister: Elizabeth Matta of Maryland; numerous nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by a son: James D. Swearingen; grandson: Mark Anthony Swearingen; brother: Samuel Swearingen and Sister: Iona Barber. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
