

John W. “Jack” Lawrence, 92 of Lebanon passed away on Friday, October 24, 2014 in his residence. He was the husband of Claudia Kleinfelter Lawrence with whom he was married 30 years this past May. He was born in Shamokin, PA on May 4, 1922, son of the late James and Lottie Haupt Lawrence. He was a graduate of Shamokin High School. Mr. Lawrence proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the 88th Division, 351st Infantry Company B. as Staff Sgt. He served in two invasions, Africa, Sicily and Italy. He was wounded 3 times and earned a purple heart, bronze star, American Defense Medal, European medal with 3 battle stars, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and a Combat Infantry Badge. He was past president of the AFGE Union at V.A.M.C., past commander of the American Legion Post #73 in Shamokin, Vice district commander of the American Legion district 17, Past Asst. Sgt. Of Arms in the state of Pa for the American Legion, past President of the Kiwanis Club of Lebanon, Past Exalted Ruler Lodge 631 BPOE of Lebanon and lifetime member of the VFW Post #23. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children: Melinda wife of Gary Tharp, Coal twp., Janet wife of Thomas Mogren, Oswego, NY; Joni wife of Scott Lefever, Lititz; Jeff Lawrence and wife Terri, Myrtle Beach; Rod Ilgenfritz, Lebanon; Rene Ilgenfritz, Lebanon; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son: John William Lawrence Jr.; sister: Jane Kennedy and brother James Lawrence. A viewing will be held on Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm in the Rohland Funeral Home, 508 Cumberland St., Lebanon. Funeral services will he held on Thursday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home where a viewing will be held beginning at 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment with full military honors will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
