Thelma P McGowan

Thelma P. McGowan, 95, Lebanon, Passed away on Wednesday February 7, 2024 in her residence. She was the wife of the late Harold E. McGowan. Thelma was born in Lebanon on August 19, 1928 a daughter of the late Theodore T. and Dillie M. Williams Light. She was a graduate of Lebanon High School class of 1946 and had been a long-time employee of Pomeroy’s and Spring Glen Farms at the Lebanon Farmer’s Market. She was a member of the former Tabor U.C.C. where she was also a member of the Gardenia Sunday School Class. Thelma was a member of the Union Fire Co. #1; Ladies Auxiliary of the Lebanon County Firemen’s Association and served as recording secretary for 16 years; Pa State Firemen’s Women’s Auxiliary; TPA; Northern Lebanon Senior Center; Lebanon Senior Center. She was an avid bowler who bowled in the Early Bird, Mixed Flower, Cedarette and Saturday Nighters Leagues. Thelma’s passion for bowling allowed her to be inducted into the Lebanon Valley USBC Association Hall of Fame. She was also a member of the Lunch Bunch Class of 1946. Thelma served as a Girl Scout leader for many years; enjoyed putting puzzles together; belonged to a sewing circle and always loved to travel with her late husband. Thelma is survived by children: Robert E. and wife Charito McGowan; Patricia A. wife of Stephen Gaidos; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister: Fern Thome and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son: Edward H. McGowan; sister: Catherine I. Groft; brothers: Theodore, Gordon, Kenneth, Edwin and Stanley Light. Funeral services will be Wednesday 10:30am in the Rohland Funeral Home 508 Cumberland St., Lebanon, PA 17042. Viewing will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm and Wednesday from 9:30am to the time of service. Interment will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Union Fire Company #1, 700 S. 8th St., Lebanon, PA 17042.
