June 28, 1929 – January 11, 2015
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Florence was predeceased by her loving husband William (Bill) F. Lede, brother Arthur Wesenberg and sister Ethel McCord. Left behind to mourn are her four children, David (Susan), Lynda Hackney (Gary), Cliff, and Diana Galbraith (John), 15 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, sister Evelyn Will, brother Raymond Wesenberg and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Florence was born in Edmonton to William and Martha Wesenberg and was raised in the farming community of Hay Lakes. Bill and Florence married in 1946 and moved to Leduc where they put down roots and raised their family. Florence was a great homemaker who loved gardening and entertaining. She was an energetic individual with a passion for travel.
Florence was an active volunteer in the community. After Bill’s death in 1980, she started the William F. Lede Foundation with proceeds from his life insurance policy. Since that time, the foundation has established Leduc's first community meeting room, known as the William F. Lede Room at the Civic Centre, and made yearly contributions to the Leduc Boys and Girls Club, the Black Gold Hospital Foundation, the Leduc and District Food Bank and countless others. Florence herself was a member of the Order of Royal Purple, served on the board at Second Glance and had been with Meals on Wheels in Leduc since its inception.
A Funeral Service Celebrating the Life of Florence Lede was held on Tuesday January 27, 2015 at Peace Lutheran Church in Leduc, Alberta, where Pastor Matt Lyseng officiated.
Florence influenced many people in her lifetime and leaves an outstanding legacy. She will be dearly missed.
The family wishes to thank those who have offered their help and expressed their condolences at this time of sorrow. Memorial donations may be made to The Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, World Vision Canada, The Canadian Lutheran World Relief or the charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements under the direction of Hainstock & Son Funeral Chapel, Leduc, AB.
