With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Teresa. On February 24, 2026, at the age of 92, she peacefully left this earth to join our father, John.
Teresa was born on April 20, 1933, in Taber, Alberta, to Joe and Anna Merkl, the youngest of three sisters. She completed her LPN training in Calgary. Shortly after her marriage to John, they moved from Taber to the Genesee area and began farming. They had four children. Later they moved to Warburg, Alberta.
Over the years, Teresa worked at Max & Max Meats, the Breton Hospital, and later at Salem Manor in Leduc. She also served as an active and valued member of the Village of Warburg Council.
She grew a wonderful garden in which the poppies and dill ran wild. She canned lecso with her abundance of tomatoes, and there were always shredded beets in the freezer for beet soup and sliced apples for apple desserts. We all looked forward to her pea soup made from the fresh garden peas and her homemade bread. She shared her garden’s produce with family, friends, and neighbours.
Teresa had a strong work ethic and she filled her days doing many things that she felt needed to be accomplished. In the evenings, she would relax with a good book, cross-stitch, knit, or sew.
She had immeasurable love for her family and friends. She wouldn’t hesitate to help out when help was needed. One of her great joys was to cook and bake and have family and friends over. Christmas was always a special time. She was a loving grandmother and enjoyed every minute she could spend with her grandchildren.
Teresa lived a long and full life. She lived each day fully and she lived with the faith that there would be a tomorrow. We will forever cherish our memories with her.
Teresa will be forever missed and forever loved by her children, Roger (Vicki); Valerie; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; George (Erna), Thelma, Randy, Evelyn S., and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Teresa was predeceased by her husband, John; son, Rod; daughter, Cathy; sisters, Katie and Elizabeth; parents Joe and Anna; John’s parents, John and Magdalena; and brothers-in-law, Joe and Alex.
Thank you to the kind staff at Salem Manor.
A service for both Teresa and John will take place later in the spring.
