October 10, 1930 - April 23, 2016
Our beloved father, grandfather, and wise old owl, Bill Loblaw, died on April 23, 2016 in Leduc, Alberta at the age of 85.
Bill was born in Hespro, Alberta and lived most of his formative years in Calgary where he met and married his beautiful wife Beatrice. This dynamic duo produced and raised three daughters, Karen, Maureen, and Donna. Their journeys together took them throughout British Columbia and Alberta, and abroad in later years.
Bill was always a man of many talents and a true entrepreneur. Over the years he took on a number of unique and interesting jobs. Before his lengthy sales career, both for a major retailer and eventually a successful business owner, he was drafted by the NHL, hauled beef, repaired appliances, moved pianos, and drove bus to mention only a few. His diversity was second to none.
Anyone who knew Bill recognized his unique and creative nature. He always had a funny story to tell anyone at anytime...some of which included details that may have been slightly exaggerated. Whether it was stories about Seven Toed Pete, snipe hunting, or shooting squirrels for pocket change, there was always a humorous tale to enjoy if Pa was around. After retiring and in more recent years, Bill became known for his wishing wells, bird houses of all shapes and sizes, and his hoot owls that can be found in a number of family and friends’ yards.
Bill is predeceased by his parents, Ted and Lucy Loblaw, his beloved wife, Beatrice Loblaw, his six siblings, his son-in-law, Russ Woodall, and many other friends and relatives.
Bill leaves behind his loving and dedicated daughters- Karen Woodall, Maureen Mitton (Randy), and Donna Sturgeon (Mark), his grandchildren and great-grandchildren- Kim and Kevin (Adam and Levi), Mike and Janine (Abby, Max and Charlie), Jeff and Kristen (Makena, Landry and Braylee), Brian and Cheryl (and the little Woodall on the way), Carey, Brett, and Sidney.
The privilege of a lifetime is becoming exactly who you were meant to be and being completely proud of your brave and soulful journey to reach that end. Well, you did it Pa! We have been blessed with your presence and we will always celebrate the fact that you lived a life filled with hard work, integrity, independence, love, kindness, and individuality. Till we meet again...
Love from OWL of Us, With OWL our Hearts. Hoot Hoot!
To honor Bill’s wishes no funeral will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
Arrangements under the direction of Hainstock & Son Funeral Chapel, Leduc, AB.
