

Martha Carolyn “Pickle” Jones Dickerson, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2015. She was born on March 3, 1934 in Anniston, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her father, Alvin Bowie Jones and her mother, Sybil Morrison Jones. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Dr. Dudley E. Dickerson, Jr., whom she was married to for 57 years; sister, Mary Eleanor Houston of Marietta, GA; sister-in-law, Charlene Dickerson of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; son, Dudley E. Dickerson, III of Birmingham, AL; daughter, Leslie Carolyn Dickerson of Asheville, NC; Son, Paul Winston Dickerson of Madison, MS; daughter, Holly Dickerson Cox of Southaven, MS. She is known as “Gubby” to her 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy: Alise, Havely, Lloyd Allen, Forest, Lauren, Taylor, Dudley IV, Daniel, Blake, Drew, Gabby, Stormy, Holden, Jackson, Ashlynn and Laely. She also has many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
Carolyn attended Birmingham Southern where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity, and graduated from Mississippi University for Women with a degree in Communications. Her lifelong career was as a dental hygienist, where she worked side by side with her loving husband for over 40 years. Carolyn had a passion and love for life that was apparent in everything she did, such as being a season ticket holding Alabama Football Fan and a talented artist. She enjoyed traveling, being at the beach, fast cars, spending time with her family, and being Lana Turner and Anne Murray’s #1 fan.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 1st, 2015 from 12 Noon to 2:00pm at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds, Alabama, with services beginning at 2:00pm and officiated by Bobby Patrick. Immediately following, burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, Alabama. Pallbearers will be Terry Brown, Daniel Carsky, Forest Carsky, Drew Dickerson, Dudley Dickerson IV, Jerry Dickerson, Steve Houston, and Gerry Lee. Honorary pallbearers are Lloyd Allen Ballard, Stormy Carsky, Doug Cox, Jackson Dickerson, Keith Hoffman, Nick Ladd, and Holden McCormick.
