

Charles “Charlie” VanMeter, 85, of Moody, AL, passed away on January 27, 2024. Charlie was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Freida VanMeter; his parents, Paul and Elsie VanMeter; and his sister-in-law Lois VanMeter. He is survived by his daughter, Susie; brother David VanMeter; grandchildren, David Johnson (Charlotte), Anna Flebotte, and Emma Flebotte; stepson, David Johnson (Angelyn); step-granddaughter, Ashley Young (Stephen); and loving family including great-grandchildren, cousins, and in-laws.
Born in Vincennes, Indiana, Charlie played baseball at Vincennes University. He went on to serve in the US Army before beginning his career as a supervisor for the US Postal Service at both Miami and Birmingham airports. He loved crappie fishing, gardening, watching sports and news, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Enhabit Hopsice, especially Jennifer, Betty, Tanya, Kory, and Megan. You all went above and beyond to give our dad/Papa the most compassionate care, and we are forever grateful for you. We would also like to thank Makeda Dillard and Deborah Butler for the kindness and love you’ve shown our family as you’ve helped care for Charlie. Each of you are true angels on Earth.
There will be no public services.
There was truly no one in this world quite like Charlie. He gave us a lifetime of unforgettable memories and is already missed so very much.
