
Charlotte - 81, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Aldersgate Retirement Community in Charlotte. She was born on August 23, 1933 in Leeds, Alabama, daughter of the late Mike J. and Mattie Will Guthrie Sharp.
Mrs. Marsicano attended Leeds Public Schools and Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama where she met her husband of 62 years, Vito Frank Marsicano. After his U.S. Army service, they settled in St. James, New York where she worked as a teaching assistant in St. James public schools. Mrs. Marsicano was a committed volunteer in her sons' activities and their schools' Parent Teacher Associations serving as PTA president on at least one occasion. She also enjoyed an active social life, especially with her Sewing Club where the agenda only rarely included sewing.
Following an early retirement, Mrs. Marsicano returned to Leeds and opened Costumes of Leeds, a costume rental business. She was very active in civic affairs, serving on the Leeds Tree Commission, with historic preservation groups, and as president of the Leeds Arts Council where she was a leader in the effort to build the Leeds Theatre and Arts Center. She and Mr. Marsicano were finalists for the Leeds Citizen of the Year Award. They moved to Charlotte in 2010.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Marsicano was predeceased by her brother, George William Sharp. She is survived by her husband, Vito, and their two sons - Michael Marsicano and his wife, Leslie, of Charlotte and Daniel Marsicano and his wife, Barbara, of Hampton Bays, New York. She is survived by seven grandchildren and their spouses - Danielle Marsicano Messina and her husband Christopher, Scott, Stephanie and Gregory Marsicano, Christopher Marsicano and his wife Michele, Jamie and David Marsicano. She is also survived by a brother, Joseph Donald Sharp of Birmingham, Alabama and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A private service was held at the Sharp Family Cemetery in Leeds on Saturday, May 30, 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leeds Arts Council at P.O.
