Dear Joe and family the news of Gail's passing brings tears to my eyes, I weep
for your loss, I lost "my Pete" to cancer over 3 years ago and we can't help but feel the terrible loss. But Pete gave his heart to Christ about a year and a half before he went to be with his new-found friend. I had prayed for him for over 50 years and at long-last he was saved. I'm so very sorry to hear about your Mother, Miriam.  She was such a sweet, sweet lady.  I pray you will always have good memories and cherish them.  It is difficult when we lose someone we love so much, but I pray God will be with you and comfort you every step of the way. I send you love and prayers.

I just read of Gail's passing today in the St. Clair Times.  I wept....  I think I wept because of her goodness and out of remorse that I will never be as good a person as she was,  yet I live.  She was so good.... so kind.... so loving ~ an inspiration for us all....  I weep again as I type.  She was a friend to all and a master teacher (of education and LIFE).

God bless you all in your time of sorrow.  Miriam, I have never met you, but Gail told me one time that I reminded her of you.  She spoke so lovingly of you.  She was a special friend to me when we taught together at Ragland Elem.  I hope I can meet you some day.

Through her gift of education, every note of music she played and sang, and that wonderful smile that was always on her face, she touched and brought out the best in everyone she met.  Our lives have been so blessed because a special lady named Gail came to dwell among us.  Joe, you and your family will be in our prayers as you journey through this new season of life.

You know how blessed we have been by your friendship, and by Gail's presence at all of our Mountain Valley poets' gatherings.  She will continue to be present with us, in our minds and hearts.  Gail's poetry was and is the poetry of the spirit, which will speak to us always.  I and we have never met a more gentle, generous, wise and faithful soul.  What a gift to have her in our lives.

Joe and Miriam and family,
What a precious lady Mrs Gail is!  I can still see her beautiful smile and hear her soft voice.  I still remember her snickers and laughter at some of Joe's comments.   The two of you always blessed me when you played offertories and preludes together at Bethel.  One of the things that I admired about your marriage was how you shared so much together in your music, your teaching vocation and the way that you seemed so delighted at being in each others company.  Miriam I know that you will miss her, she  always had a certain special twinkle in her eye when she spoke of you and I know that she is proud of you.  I remember with great fondness the night Joe and Gail had Marsha and me and little Abbie out to supper at their home.  We had the nicest time and Joe gave our Abbie a small quilt that he had made and she used it for her dolls for many years and we still have it too!  I praise our Lord for the sweetness of her life and of her memory.  I know that thought her loss is temporary but it is great.  My prayers are for you Joe and for you  Miriam and for the other family as well.  I know that you will live on to make her proud until we all see her again some day.

We offer our prayers for days of comfort knowing that Gail is now your favorite guardian angel. 

To emulate Gail would be an asset to all of us.

Mr. Whitten and family: I had not had the pleasure of knowing Gail for a long period of time but she was an inspiration to me and I'll never forget her lovely smile.  I met her at a Cancer Support Group a while back and looked forward to seeing her and Joe at those meetings.  My prayers are with you during this time.

Papa Joe, I am so sorry for your loss. Ms. Whitten has always had a smile on her face and she will be missed.

In the few years we knew her, Gail touched our lives in such a wonderful way. Sadly, we realize that we will never again enjoy her company, but thankful that she will suffer no more.
