Hugh Preston Cunningham Jr., age 97, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2022. Hugh is preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Hogg Cunningham, Helen Lelle Cunningham; his daughter-in-law Linda Cunningham and son-in-law, Dr. Allen May. He is survived by his three children, Howard Cunningham (Kathy), of Leeds, Alabama; Jo Cunningham May Adams (James), of Brandon Mississippi; John Cunningham, of Pell City, Alabama; grandchildren, Heath Cunningham (Misty), Moody, Alabama; Meridith May Curtis (Lee), of Kusadasi Turkey; Heather Cunningham, of Leeds, Alabama, Gregory May, (Amanda), of Philadelphia, Mississippi; Jake Adams (Anita Beth), of Brentwood, Tennessee; Bailey Adams, (Rachel), of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Libby Adams Newell, (Brian), of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee and 23 great-grandchildren. It is difficult to express all that he meant to many people. He was a small town boy who was loved by his mother and father. As many young men at that time were called to serve their country so was he. He served in the United States Navy aboard LCI 746, a small ship that put soldiers ashore a beach during an invasion in South Pacific Campaign. After the war he met the love of his life Rebecca. They married and had three children. They were married over fifty three years. He was a man of tremendous faith and loved others above himself. After Rebecca died he married Helen and had a new life with her. He spent the last months of his life at Castlewoods Place assisted living home in Flowood again serving others daily. A visitation will be held on Wednesday October 19, 2022 from 1:00-2:00PM from the Chapel of Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds, Alabama with a Graveside Service to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
