James passed from this earth at home in Leeds, Alabama with his daughter Marie at 9:48 am on Tuesday August 25th. He touched many over his life’s journey as a provider, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend. Humble to a fault, James was an electrical engineer by education but far more by skill. Ever questioning, he worked to understand and perfect everything he chose to pursue. Over his life he was a boy scientist, radio man, mechanic, avid reader of science fiction, a rocket scientist, engine builder, racing enthusiast, pit crewman, train nut, amateur radio operator, practical machinist, shooter, reloader and marksman. He will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, sharp wit and genuine smile.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Marie (Frassrand) and his mother, Mary Elizabeth (Eichenberger). He is survived by his father, Gerald A. Liechty, his sisters Diane Gilpin (Bill) and Melissa Liechty Kasweck (Ken), his twins Marie Simone and John Robert (Candy) and his granddaughter Ashely Elizabeth Jackson (Eric).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in memory of James Robert Liechty at the American Heart Association – Heart.org. Visitation will be Saturday, August 29th at St. Theresa’s of the Child Jesus Catholic Church in Leeds, Alabama from 9:00 ~ 10:00 am with funeral service to follow in the sanctuary officiated by Fr. E. Gray Bean. James will be transported to Watson North Funeral Home in Winchester for a graveside service and burial on Monday, August 31, 2020 at 1:30 pm CDT, First United Church U.C.C. in Belvidere, TN.
