

John Iverson McWaters Sr born May 3, 1930, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones on March 11, 2025. He was a kindhearted, sweet natured, religious father, son and friend. His love was one to be enveloped by and a privilege to be bestowed upon anyone lucky enough to witness it. John McWaters Sr lived an amazingly long life. John’s passions were farming, carpentry and gardening. He was known for his baking/cooking skills as well as choir director and deacon at Cool Springs Baptist Church. John retired from Amerex after 20 years of service as a security guard and he was also the owner of the McWaters Service station also referred to as Willis Service Station in Ashville. John is survived by his son John McWaters (Tanya), grandson Brandon McWaters (Ashley) and granddaughters Emily McWaters and Carley Thomason. John McWaters Sr also had several great grandchildren: John Henry McWaters, Jaxon McWaters and Everlee and Briar O’Rear. He is preceded in death by his late wife Elizabeth Joyce McWaters. Funeral and service will be held at Cool Springs Baptist Church. Pall bearers will be Brandon McWaters, John Henry McWaters, Jaxon McWaters, Owen Walton, James Cole, Randall Williams, Phil Limbaugh, Tyler Limbaugh. Honorary pall bearers will be Rex Bearden, Lane Tibbs, and Briar O’Rear. Services for Mr. McWaters will be on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Cool Springs Baptist Church in Ashville, Alabama. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM with burial to follow in the adjoining cemetery. Services directed by Kilgroe Funeral Home Leeds, Alabama.
