He attended Officer Candidate School, was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and served honorable retiring at the rank of Major. After 30 years of faithful law enforcement service he retired from the Birmingham police department. During his high school years Len's musical talents as a teen led to the creation of his successful band "The Dynatones". While he enjoyed sports cars, he preferred jumping on his Harley for long multistate motorcycle trips with his close friend Steve Hearon and others whenever he could.
Len is survived by his four children Michael, Melanie, Michelle and Mathew and three grandchildren; Len is also survived by his Fiancee, Judy Molt; granddaughter, Nora Molt; sisters, Jo Macek, Donna Serkin, Darlene Welsch, and Patty Gillespie; brother, Frank Welsch.
