

Lois Patrick Farmer,age 93, of Leeds, passed away Sunday January 18, 2015. Born in Copiah County Mississippi April 3, 1921, she spent her school years there, lived and worked in Amarillo, TX and Seattle, WA during WWII and married Kenneth L. Farmer, also of Copiah County, MS in 1946. Kenneth had survived the Bataan Death March and three and a half years as a POW during the war, and Lois worked to “put him through school” at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS. They then moved to Leeds in 1950, where Kenneth had a career at Universal Atlas Cement Company and the City of Leeds, and Lois raised their two children and worked for many years at The Pants Store in Leeds. She was a leader in the Leeds First United Methodist Church, the Castalia Literary Club, and numerous other community endeavors. Her husband of 66 years preceded her in death in May 2013. They had lived at Kirkwood by the River retirement community in Birmingham since 2012.
Lois is survived by her son, Dr. Kenneth L. Farmer, Jr. (Pat) of Steilacoom, WA; daughter, Pamela Farmer Ferguson (Sean) of Oswego, IL; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00pm on Wednesday Jan 21 at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds. Funeral Services will be at 2:00pm on Thursday Jan 22 at Leeds First United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends a donation in her memory to the Leeds First United Methodist Church (either the Building & Maintenance Fund or the Mission & Ministries Fund).
