Lyman Cleveland Chancellor, a proud life long resident of Leeds, Al. and Veteran of The United States Army, passed away in his home in the early morning hours of May 13, 2021. The best word to describe Mr. Chancellor was AMAZING. His contributions to the lives of many, specifically the youth of the community, was unprecedented. He was not only a father to his children (his most proud accomplishment) but also a proud father figure to those in the community that lacked parental support and guidance. For many years he was a little league coach for several Leeds youth sports, and he was instrumental in creating the girls' youth softball league for the city of Leeds. He was a class parent for his daughter throughout her early and secondary education years (enjoying embarrassing her every step of the way), a Zamora Shriner, and a volunteer for anything or anywhere he was needed.
He previously served as a Leeds City Councilman, and was a member of the athletic and band committees at Leeds High School.
After retiring from the grocery business he was able to further enjoy his hobbies of fishing, boating, beekeeping, and ham radio operating.
He enjoyed watching UAB, Vanderbilt, and Auburn sports, anything on The Military Channel, Jimmy Johnson race Nascar, and working alongside his co- workers and former veterans at ABC Auction.
Mr. Chancellor is survived by his wife, Carolyn Chancellor, their children: son Jeff Holbrooks (Michelle) of Huntsville, Al., and daughter Lauren Gallian (Scott) of Lenoir City, Tn., his "bonus daughter" Lisa Dawson of Leeds, Al., and several nieces and nephews.
As a proud Poppa he is survived by his granddaughter Raylee Holbrooks and grandson Chancellor Gallian (he really enjoyed hearing about this one's "shenanigans" that reminded him of his younger self).
He is preceded in death by his father, Sidney Lorenza Chancellor, mother, Loise Elliott Chancellor, brother, Sidney Shelburne Chancellor, niece, Ashley Michelle Flowers, and nephew Sidney Kenneth Chancellor.
In lieu of flowers please considering donating to Shriners Hospitals for Children or spending time volunteering in a local classroom or with a local youth sports league.
The family is thankful for all of those that have reached out offering their support of Mr. Chancellor.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Kilgroe Funeral Home, Leeds from 5:00PM until 7:00PM. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Kilgroe Funeral Home, Leeds beginning at 11:00AM with burial to follow at Shiloh Cemetery.
