Matt was a great friend and a wonderful person. He was caring, funny, and loyal. He will be deeply missed.

Matthew was the happiest little boy! He lived life to the fullest and reading these other posts reminds me of just how loving and fun he was to be around! Unfortunately, the miles between us kept me from knowing him as an adult, and I regret that! It's not goodbye...just 'see ya later.'

The loss of your son and brother has also put a hole in our hearts.  We love your family and know that Matt was so very loved by all.  May God keep you in his arms and give you all comfort.

Karen, my heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to you and your family.  Although I never knew Matthew, knowing you makes me certain that he was a wonderful young man with a kind and friendly spirit.  Peace be with you all.

What can I say about Matt that hasn't already been said? He was one of the best guys to come into my life. I instantly felt like he was my new best friend. He was so patient. He would explain things every different way he could until I understood what he was trying to explain. He taught me what it meant to be a good person. I strive in my daily life to be more like him. I was honored to have him in my life. "The Circle" will never be the same but, it was certainly made better and stronger by his presence. Thanks for everything Matt.

I am a friend of Matt's from UAB. We call our group at the business school "the circle" with Matt being a VERY integral part of the circle. Matt is super smart, always helping the rest of us in our classes. He was such a gentleman that I, as a lady, appreciate greatly. He would stay at school with me till late hours just so I wouldn't have to be by myself. Like others have mentioned, he gave the GREATEST bear hugs...which I told him just a week before the accident. He would always greet me with "what's up gorgeous!?", give me a hug which let me melt into his chest, and then pick me up and swing me around. I am one to stress about everything and these hugs, and the occasional shoulder massage, always brightened my days. I will miss having Matt at our "circle" gatherings, fondly known as Taco Tuesdays. We truly love him and will miss him tremendously.


He was only a part of my life for a short time but he'll always be in my heart.  His smile was infectious and his hugs were unforgettable, just like him.

Matthew was my birthday buddy. We had exactly a year difference between us. We could talk about absolutely anything. He had a great sense of humor always willing to help and always there if you needed him. He will always be the best cousin in the world. He is always going to be missed greatly.

I was an ASFA friend of Matt's (or Jenny as I knew him).  He had one of the biggest hearts of any person I've ever met.  I'll never forget his smile- it had the power to light a room, and if he wasn't smiling you knew something was very, very wrong.  The last time I saw him we ran into each other at a bar.  I didn't see him at first, but I heard someone yell "Joanna!!!" and I was lifted off the ground with a giant bear hug.  His hugs were awesome- he is one of the few people I have met that gets a hug RIGHT- a hug that really made you feel loved and that brightened your day. He will be greatly missed.  The world will be a little darker without him, his smile, and those real bear hugs.

Matt was an amazing person, student, and friend.  He was loved by so many and will be dearly missed.  I will miss seeing his smiling face in the halls of the School of Business.  He is one student that I truly believe I learned more from than he did from me.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

The Musso Family and Gus' Hot Dogs is devastated by Matthew's passing.  Matthew was a fine man, friend, and employee of Gus' over the years.  When Matthew came in to visit and eat with us, he always had a smile on his face, a great outlook on life, and was always ready to lend a helping hand.  Matthew will be missed by all who knew him.  We pray for the this wonderful family who must struggle through this difficult time and  the passing of years without him.  May God's embrace surround you all now and always.

Matt was a great guy, with an infectious laugh. (The posted picture on this site is PERFECT.)I only knew him for a couple of years, working for us occasionally at the UAB Performing Arts Center. He was a reliable, hard worker that others enjoyed being around and working with. He was always eager to learn new things and enjoyed meeting "new friends". He will be missed...

Mathew was a very good friend to both Eric and me. He was always a class act and never seemed to be in a bad mood. He was always willing to give a hug or a smile if you needed one.
