Nancy Mettetal from Leeds, Alabama saw Jesus face-to-face on December 13, 2019 after a short hospital stay in Birmingham, Alabama. She was born in Granger, Iowa on February 15, 1933 to Harlan and Verna Bingaman. Nancy was a 1951 graduate of North High School in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1954 she met and married the love of her life, Bobby E. Mettetal, originally from Johnson City, Tennessee. Their marriage of 65 years has been an example of love and commitment to so many. They moved from Iowa to Alabama in 1992.
Nancy’s faith in her savior, Jesus was a cornerstone of her days. Bible reading, devotions, prayers and cards of encouragement to others cemented her relationship with all who met her. Her Sunday school class at Cedar Grove Baptist Church was an integral part of her extended family.
Nancy will be greatly missed by her husband, Bob; her children, Susan Mettetal, Jody Edwards, and Bobby Mettetal all residing in Leeds, Alabama. She adored her grandchildren, Matthew Mettetal from California; Sarah Mettetal Wheeler from Minnesota, Christopher Mettetal from Arizona and Ginny Edwards from Leeds, Alabama. They brought such joy and laughter to her. She is also survived by her only sibling, Harold Bingaman (wife Joann) from Oregon and many nieces and nephews. Her parents preceded her in death as well as her treasured daughter, Ginny Anne Mettetal who has been with Jesus since 1992.
A service to celebrate Nancy’s life will be Sunday, December 15th at Cedar Grove Baptist Church with visitation for family and friends at 1:00 immediately followed by the memorial service at 2:00. The church is located at 2001 Cedar Grove Road; Leeds, AL 35094. Graveside services will be at 11:00 on Tuesday, December 17th at the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to two of Nancy’s favorite things, (children & books!) are welcomed: Cedar Grove Baptist Church Children’s Ministry or the Leeds Jane Culbreth Library.
