Born 9/25/1939 – Passed Away 11/1/2021
Ramona Davidson Campbell died peacefully in her sleep on November 1, 2021 after a long battle with COPD. She was 82 years old. To say that she lost her battle with COPD is an understatement, because she never stopped fighting. It is through her, that we now understand know what resilience and perseverance truly look like.
Mona was the daughter of Welton and Mary Davidson (deceased) and was raised in a small town called Sebastopol, Mississippi. After graduating Sebastopol High School in 1957, she attended nursing school at Matty Hersie School of Nursing in Meridian, Mississippi. She soon met her best friend and love of her life, Joe Campbell, married him on September 28, 1962 and soon began their family. Mona was preceded in death by her husband, Joe and daughter, Jo Deann Campbell. Mona is survived by her daughters whom she was immensely proud of, Corinne Campbell, Fran Romano (Mike), whom some known as Sweet Pea. Mona is also survived by her sister, Glenda Kaaron Purdin (Ron) and brother, Terry Davidson (Julie), Nieces and nephews: Tonya Poe (Jason), Tara Perkins (Wes), Meshon Caswell (Mike), Ted Davidson (Felisha), Marcus Davidson (Erica), and Brandi Brooks (Jeff), all of whom she greatly adored.
Mona was a loving daughter, wife, sister, mother, and friend. She began her career as a nurse. She later became a stay-at-home mom and eventually a substitute teacher before later returning to the nursing field. She worked at UAB until she retired. She was finally able to spend quality time with her husband and travel with him on his scouting trips for the L A Dodgers.
In 1992, Mona lost her youngest daughter, Jo Deann, unexpectedly. It was a devastating event that would eventually show her true colors. Mona proved to herself and others just how strong of a woman she truly was. She found strength in her loving family, numerous wonderful friends, and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Mona truly was a person of resilience, love, perseverance, and kindness to all that she knew.
As the years moved forward, Mona gained three beautiful granddaughters, Deanna Troilo (Cameron), Michaela Romano and Laci Romano. These 3 girls have brought so much joy to Mona’s life. She enjoyed spending time with them and they were a huge part of her life.
One of her favorite scriptures was 1st Corinthians 13:13… “Three things will last forever: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” Mona lived by all three of these traits, especially when it came to her family. She was a member of Leeds First United Methodist Church. She loved her church family and was devoted to living a life that was pleasing to God. For that, we are eternally gratefully for the wonderful example she was to all of us. May she rest in peace until we see her again.
