

Reverend Sam Browning, Jr. , 90, passed away on February 9, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam E. Browning, Sr. and Odell Hawkins Browning, and his brother, Jackie Browning. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Phoebe Biles Browning, his brother, Clayton Browning (Jean), many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Brother Sam lived his life to serve his God and help others in their quest for a better life, both here and eternally. He served as Pastor of the Graymont Assembly of God and served several churches as interim pastor. He also served as Chaplain of the Birmingham City Jails and lead various State Prison Ministries, work-release programs and half-way houses. His ministries assisted many young men and women in completing their education, rehabbing from various addictions, reuniting with families with changed hearts and, most importantly, securing eternal life.
The family is eternally grateful for the wonderful care and love he received from DaVita Dialysis Center, St. Clair Transportation, Diversicare Rehab of Pell City, St Vincent’s Hospitals, Optum Hospice Care Center at St. Martin’s in the Pines and the Cedar Springs Assembly of God Church.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, February 11, 2017, at 11am from Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds, with burial at Bethel Cemetery. Pallbearers were Don Beck, Ricky Crocker, Donnie Langley, Jamie Langley, John Perez and Ben Turley. Officiating the service was Brother Mike O’Brien and Brother Edward Wilson.
