

Celebration of Life services for Mr. Wittenhagen will be held Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Leesville, LA. Pastor Gary Archbold will be officiating. There will be a light lunch served in the church fellowship hall following the service. Services are under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville. The family will be receiving visitors on Saturday, July 28, 2012 from 4:00 to 9:00 PM at Hixson Funeral Home in Leesville, LA.
Pallbearers will be: Donald Bloomquist, Matthew Bloomquist, Mark Wittenhagen, Bill O’Malley, Cameron Bettez, Gary Moore, Harold Jordan and H.P. (Paxton) Thomas.
Mr. Wittenhagen was born in Mt. Vernon, SD on the October 19, 1926, to the late Albert Eric Wittenhagen and Elsie (Titze) Wittenhagen. Mr. Wittenhagen married the love of his life Selma (Sally) Hovdet on September 5, 1953. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church for the past 34 years, for many of those years he served as a member of the church council. Mr. Wittenhagen was a member of American Legion Post 145 for 19 years, Post Chaplain for 18 years and district 8 Chaplain for one year. Mr. Wittenhagen served with the US Navy in the south pacific during World War II aboard the USS Cowpens. He worked at Alford Motors in Leesville for over 25 years and is fondly remembered as “Pops”. He will be missed by all.
Mr. Wittenhagen is preceded in death by his parents, Albert Eric Wittenhagen and Elsie (Titze) Wittenhagen and one brother; Harlan W. Wittenhagen.
Mr. Wittenhagen is survived by his wife, Selma (Sally) Wittenhagen of Leesville, LA, children, Cheryl M. (Wittenhagen) O’Malley and husband, Bill O’Malley, Diane L. (Wittenhagen) Mayo and husband, Earl Mayo, Eric A. Wittenhagen, Brian D. Wittenhagen, 2 grandsons, Donald Bloomquist and Matthew Bloomquist, 3 granddaughters, Tabitha Mayo, Nikki Pignotti and Megan Pignotti, 3 great-grandsons, Cameron Bettez, Ryan Pelt, Jamison Pignotti and four sisters, Deloris Jenney of Omaha, NE, Sharon Burnside of Omaha, NE, Carol Fox of San Bernadino, CA and Bonnie Peupke of Parkston, SD
