Fredrick John McBride

May 23, 1936 to August 1, 2015

Fredrick “John” McBride, loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather passed away on August 1st, 2015. His family was by his side as he passed peacefully.

John was born in Yakima, Washington to Lealand and Lonace McBride and was raised along with his sisters, Marilea and Susan. The family eventually moved to San Diego and in 1955 he graduated from Herbert Hoover High School. In 1957 he joined the United States Air Force and served as both active duty and reserves until 1963. It was during this time that he met Mary Polk of Greenfield Maine on a blind date and in December of 1958 she joined him in Alaska and they were married in a small church in Fairbanks. After returning to San Diego, John worked for the Department of General Services for the County as the Chief of Reprographics until he retired. After retirement he went to work for the San Diego Padres as an usher. This suited him well as he loved people and especially enjoyed talking with the out of town guest.

John is preceded in death by his wife Mary of 56 years. He is survived by their two children and their spouses: John and Jodi McBride, Joanne and Eric Ludwig, his five grandchildren who he loved deeply: Mark, Jake, Bayli, Brynli, Katrina and his two sisters, Susan Olivier and Marilea Bryant. John also had four half-brothers Ron, Dan and Glen of WA and David of MT.

John was very passionate about two things, people and cars. He loved his family and friends very much and would always be willing to help others in any way he could. He also loved to drive and he and Mary spent many months traveling in their RV visiting relatives and friends along the way. He was also known by many for his beautiful 57 Chevy that he drove around town with his little dogs in the back seat. John was a wonderful loving and gentle man who we all miss but are thankful for the beautiful memories that he created.

We, the family of John will be honoring his memory and celebrating his life on Saturday, August 29th at the family home at 4pm.
