Margaret Mary Delaney Firebaugh was born on December 31, 1921, the second of four children to David and Claire Delaney. Margaret grew up in Faribault, Minnesota. After graduating from the local high school, Margaret (who became known as Mici) moved to Washington DC where she worked as a secretary. It was not long before she met her husband-to-be, Bob Firebaugh, a pilot with Trans World Airlines. They were married after a short courtship.
During their twenty-year marriage, the couple had four children: Delaine, Susan, Brian and Mark.
Throughout her life, Mici maintained a close bond with her two sisters Phyllis Zamboni and Eileen Marshall and her brother Danny Delaney all of whom predeceased her. The siblings shared many special times together.
Mici had a warm personality and a great sense of humor. People who knew her would agree that she always “said it like it was.” She was genuinely interested in everyone she met. She was a good listener and took on other people’s problems as if they were her own. She loved her four children dearly as well as her three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Every year for almost 30 years, she joined the family for a week together at the beach in San Diego where they specialized in playing endless games and eating like kings!
Mici had a kind and giving heart volunteering many hours at the Church of the Resurrection in Mesa, Arizona. She loved her computer and took great pride in writing the newsletter for her mobile home park.
In her later years, Mici inspired everyone with her positive attitude in the face of the advanced Macular Degeneration she endured. She made the best of her situation helped greatly by the wonderful books on tape provided by the Braille Institute and the love of her family. Mici is survived by her daughters, Delaine Birmingham and Susan Ehrhardt, her sons Brian and Mark Firebaugh, as well as her grandchildren, Brooke Mullins, Tim Brooks and Susan Lesperance and six great grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday July 12th at 12 noon at St. Therese Church in San Diego.
She will be forever loved by her family and friends and never forgotten.
Blessed are those who died in the Lord; let them rest from their labors for their good deeds go with them.
Eternal rest grant Margaret, O Lord.
May she rest in peace. Amen.
May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
