William Whitman Brunton, 84 years old, died peacefully in his sleep on May 28, 2014. Bill was born in Newburgh, New York and spent his childhood summers in Vermont in a small town called Jamaica, on property that has been in his family for almost one hundred years. His sister Beverley said they would skip stones in the spring all the way down the road to the local store and back.
Bill married Dorothy “Dot,” while in the Army and later moved to San Diego where he worked tirelessly for the Pacific Bell Phone Company for 30 years, first as a lineman, then as a foreman. He fathered and took care of six children whom enjoyed many road trips and outings to the beach. He coached their baseball teams and was a Boy Scout leader. Bill gave many years of dedicated service to the Knight’s of Columbus and Alhambra. He cooked many a dinner for their functions, called Bingo and arranged dozens of bus trips for the organization. He had many friends and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them at all the gatherings they participated in.
One of his favorite hobbies was fishing, and he loved to be on or near the water. He was a good man, who never held a grudge and only wanted everyone to be happy and get along together. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes.
Bill was a very devoted husband through tough times and good and took exceptional care of his wife for the 60 years they were married.
He is survived by his wife Dot, sons Bill Jr (daughter-in-law Regina), Matt, Steve (and fiancee Cheryl), and Scott, and daughters Kathleen Converse (son-in-law Michael) and Susie Holland. Bill also has seven grandchildren, Donald Holland, Robert Holland, Stephanie Converse, Jessica Converse, Mikey Converse, Joey Converse and baby Wyatt Brunton and one great grandson, Caleb Holland. We will miss his laughter and smile always. May God rest his soul.
These words were written on Bill’s Great Grandfather’s Remembrance cards
“Oh, father, thy gentle voice is hushed,
Thy warm, true heart is still;
And on thy pale and peaceful face
Is resting death’s cold chill .
Thy hands are clasped upon thy breast,
We have kissed thy marble brow,
And in our aching hearts we know
We have no father now.”
Eternal rest grant unto, Bill, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace. Amen.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God,
Rest in Peace. Amen.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at the day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”
II Timothy 4: 7-8
